Why Do Your Rides Keep Needing Maintenance?
Planet Coaster 2 constant maintenance problems can drain your budget while you’re trying to build your next attraction. Regular servicing keeps a ride’s green Serviced badge active, protecting it from breakdowns and preventing permanent condition loss. Start by separating overdue servicing from damaged Ride Condition, then check whether your mechanics are actually completing their assignments.
The service badge and Ride Condition serve different purposes. When a ride goes too long without servicing, it loses its badge and its condition starts deteriorating permanently. Renewing the badge handles the servicing problem, but restoring lost condition requires a Refurbishment.
That distinction explains why repeatedly calling a mechanic can feel expensive without solving the underlying problem: a ride that has already deteriorated needs more than another service visit.
| Maintenance action | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Regular servicing | Keeps the green Serviced badge active to prevent breakdowns |
| Emergency Service | Restores a lost service badge at an extra cost and interrupts mechanic schedules |
| Repairs | Addresses breakdowns caused by critically low condition |
| Refurbishment | Permanently restores Ride Condition and restores the service badge |
Check both the badge and condition before choosing an action. Use Emergency Service for an expired badge; plan a Refurbishment when permanent condition loss needs attention.

Give Mechanics Smaller Zones and Reliable Coverage
Mechanics without assignments will service rides when they can, but a specific schedule gives you more control over coverage. A large staff roster alone doesn’t ensure each attraction gets serviced before its badge expires.

Organize your maintenance team around compact areas:
- Create smaller staff zones. Group nearby attractions instead of assigning mechanics across the entire park.
- Assign mechanics to those zones in their schedules. Inspect the schedule afterward to make sure the intended assignment appears throughout their working hours.
- Stagger breaks. Keep another mechanic available while one is resting.
- Provide nearby staff facilities. Keep the trip between work and breaks short.
- Watch an actual service visit. Follow a mechanic approaching a ride and check whether the service badge renews after the task.
For a small zone, try two mechanics with different break times, then adjust staffing to the workload. Larger areas may need additional coverage, especially when the same mechanics also maintain utilities.
Keep research assignments in mind, too. A mechanic assigned to a Mechanic Workshop generates Research Points while working there. Count that assignment separately when deciding whether your rides have enough maintenance coverage.
Before hiring more staff, inspect where the existing team spends its time. Shorter routes and working schedules address problems that extra salaries alone won’t resolve.
Check Generators and Water Pumps Alongside Rides
Generators and water pumps also require servicing. Neglect gives them a Condition Penalty that reduces efficiency, and continued deterioration can cause a breakdown that shuts the utility down completely.

Include utility buildings in your maintenance checks:
- Confirm mechanic access. Generators and pumps must be reachable for servicing and repairs.
- Review their condition. Use the Attractions and Shops menu to inspect utilities alongside rides and facilities.
- Check the relevant heatmaps. Power Supply, Water Supply, and Water Cleanliness help you locate utility problems.
- Include utilities in your staffing plan. Count the buildings mechanics must visit when setting zone boundaries.
- Refurbish deteriorated equipment. Permanent utility condition loss requires Refurbishment, just like ride condition.
Review excess utility buildings before expanding your maintenance team. Every additional generator or pump adds another item that needs attention. Remove unnecessary capacity only after checking that the remaining supply covers your park.
Also check the weather when several assets fail close together. Thunderstorms can damage rides, generators, and water pumps through lightning strikes, creating a different problem from missed routine servicing.
Use Emergency Service Without Letting It Consume Your Budget
Emergency Service is useful when a ride loses its badge and needs immediate attention. It also costs extra and disrupts the mechanic’s schedule, so repeated calls can interfere with the rest of your maintenance coverage.

When alerts start piling up, pause the game and inspect the affected rides before issuing more calls. Check the service badge, permanent condition, assigned staff, and access route. Then choose the action that addresses the problem.
For a ride with depleted condition, schedule a Refurbishment and account for its downtime. Guests cannot use an attraction while it is closed for repairs or refurbishment, so avoid taking several important attractions offline together when you can spread the work out.
Use the Finances menu to see how maintenance decisions affect cash flow. Keep enough money available for necessary upkeep before committing to another attraction and its additional staff and utility costs.
Recognize When Automatic Servicing Is Failing
In affected PC Franchise parks, mechanics can ignore scheduled servicing despite having zones and work assignments. Another symptom is a mechanic walking up to a ride or utility, then leaving without completing the work. Manual service calls can still get attention to the asset, creating an expensive cycle of repeated intervention.
Check one compact zone before reorganizing your entire park:
- Confirm the mechanic can reach the attraction.
- Check the zone assignment and working schedule.
- Make sure break coverage is available.
- Watch whether the mechanic completes the task.
- Compare the badge status before and after the visit.
If mechanics keep approaching and abandoning tasks despite those checks, stop adding staff solely to that assignment. More mechanics increase payroll without addressing that behavior.
Use manual service calls selectively to keep important attractions running, and send the reproduction details to Frontier through its support channels. Include your platform, game version, mode, and the exact behavior you watched. Describe whether automatic servicing fails while a manual call succeeds.
Handle Average Maintenance Objectives With Refurbishment
A campaign objective requiring 85% average maintenance across at least 10 rides can be frustrating when servicing doesn’t bring the park’s average high enough. Hiring more mechanics won’t permanently restore condition already lost.
For that objective, inspect the eligible rides’ condition and plan refurbishments for the deteriorated attractions. Refurbishing the rides has allowed completion of this requirement, because it addresses permanent condition loss as well as restoring service badges.
Pause to review the rides before spending, then allow the refurbishment work to finish and check the objective again. Keep scheduled servicing in place afterward so the renewed rides retain their badges.
